For the third time in history, the official team of Catalonia has managed to beat the final the ever-powerful Italian team. The final began with the female doubles match, which was won by the Catalans. In the following match of men’s doubles the Italian couple forced a tie. The mixed match was very close and finally fell down to the Catalan side by a tight result of 9/7. It is important to mention the third position of the Polish and Luxembourg teams.

Thomas Oberwalder is our new IFBT delegate for Germany. He has experience in sports as Managing Director of a pro sports media from 1991 to 2007, in car racing, american football, soccer, and ice hockey. He has worked for the media commission of the German Tennis Federation. In sports of beach tennis, he is the organizer of the IFBT tournaments in Warnemünde. He is also working with the local University to develop beach tennis.

Unfortunately the Belgian and international beach tennis family has to say goodbye to Jan Vierendeels (49 years old). He died this week in his town Lebbeke (BEL).

We will remember Jan as a very sportive, intelligent and respected player, enjoying beachtennis since 2005. He participated at different IFBT tournaments in Ravenna and Belgium.

During his beachtennis career he also became Belgian Champion 400 meters in the Category Master.
